The Alpert Jewish Community Center (AJCC) is launching a new program this year with live broadcasts from the renowned 92nd Street Y in New York City. Since 1874, the 92nd Street Y has provided exceptional forums about politics & cultural events, arts & culture, education & Jewish life and more. “Live from NY’s 92nd Street Y (Live)” is an interactive program of live satellite broadcasts of lectures, interviews, panels and readings featuring newsmakers, political figures, opinion-shapers and authors.
Now in its seventh year, the “Live” program uses satellite technology to simultaneously broadcast the Y’s renowned educational and cultural programming to community organizations across America. Former participants include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Sir Paul McCartney and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
By participating in “Live,” the audience at the AJCC will be able to ask questions as if they are in the New York audience. The AJCC staff will then submit the questions by email to New York. This is a unique opportunity for the community to be involved in a national discussion, and as the only “Live” venue in Southern California, the AJCC is opening up the broadcasts to not only the Long Beach community, but the greater Los Angeles and Orange County communities as well.
This fall, the AJCC will bring the following three special events to Southern California:
Thursday, September 24¬— Howard Dean: “Where the Progressive Movement Goes From Here”
Thursday, October 29— Alan Dershowitz vs. Dennis Prager: “The Left, the Right & Judaism in America”
Wednesday, November 4— Mitch Albom: “Have a Little Faith”
All events begin at 5pm and the cost is $10 per lecture or $25 for a season pass.
