A 74-year-old Lakewood man who volunteered as a swim and water polo coach at a Long Beach high school was free on bond Tuesday following his arrest for alleged sexual misconduct with multiple girls.
Michael Quigley was arrested Monday and later released on $100,000 bond, according to Long Beach police and jail records.
According to police, detectives received a report in October 2022 from a female student who claimed that Quigley touched her inappropriately while he was volunteering as a swim and water polo coach at Jordan High School. Detectives began an investigation and identified additional alleged victims, with crimes allegedly dating back to 2021, police said.
Investigators presented the case to Long Beach city prosecutors, who charged Quigley with seven misdemeanor counts each of sexual battery and annoying or molesting a child under age 18, according to police.
Police said Quigley previously worked for the Long Beach Unified School District, and investigators believe there may be additional victims, who were encouraged to come forward.
Anyone with information or who believes they were victimized was encouraged to contact LBPD Child Abuse Detective Denise Green at 562-570-7321. Tipsters who choose to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
