The Long Beach Junior Chamber is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach and the CityPlace Shopping Center to produce the annual Back-to-School Children’s Shopping Spree for elementary-aged children in need of the basic necessities to start their school year.
For the last 12 years, on early August mornings, the Long Beach Jaycees, store staff, along with community and business partners invite disadvantaged students to go school shopping. Each child is matched with a volunteer and offered the opportunity to purchase school clothes, shoes and supplies.
“Our goal this year is to invite 100 children, meaning we need to raise over $10,000 before August 16,” said Christy Greenslit, event producer. “We encourage individuals, business and community leaders to join us in sponsoring, donating and volunteering to make this the most rewarding experience for all involved.”
“There is nothing more satisfying than being part of an event where you can get to give our community’s most needy kids the opportunity to start school with dignity and excitement,” said Jennifer Gutowski, vice president of community development for the Long Beach Junior Chamber.
