The County of Los Angeles Fire Department along with the Signal Hill Police Department is still accepting applications to enroll in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course.
In the case of a major disaster, police, fire and medical professionals may be too busy to fully meet the demands of the people. So people, particularly in isolated neighborhoods, will have to rely on each other to meet immediate life-saving and life-sustaining needs.
To provide basic training in safety and life saving skills for the general public, the L.A. County Fire Department developed CERT.
The course curriculum goes over emergency preparedness, fire safety, emergency medical operations, light search and rescue operation, disaster psychology and disaster simulation, among others.
Dates and times have not been established yet but will be decided depending on the schedule which receives the most requests.
The training course will be presented as a series of either seven consecutive nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. or three consecutive Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Signal Hill Community Center, located at 1780 East Hill Street in Signal Hill.
There is no charge to take the training course.
