Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers have detained a Lakewood man after he made anti-police remarks and then placed an object outside the doors of a police substation on Sept. 23, according to police.
At approximately 11:15am Wednesday, the man arrived at the LBPD’s East Substation (EPSS), made comments against police, then placed an object in between the handle and the glass of the main-entrance doors of the station. Because of the nature of the incident, police requested assistance from the Los Angeles County’s bomb squad.
The EPSS, residential units adjacent to the EPSS and nearby businesses were evacuated. During the investigation, the subject was identified and detained.
Once the bomb squad arrived, they determined that the object did not contain any explosive material.
The suspect’s vehicle was also located and searched for any potential explosive devices, but none were found. The suspect, who is only being identified as a male adult resident of Lakewood, is being held for mental evaluation.
The incident ended at approximately 1:35pm.
During the incident, Los Coyotes Diagonal from the Traffic Circle to Clark Avenue was closed to all traffic.
