In an effort to make Long Beach the most bike-friendly city in the nation, the City of Long Beach, Bikestation and Cal State Long Beach are coordinating the Second Annual Bicycle Count. At least 300 volunteers are needed on Thursday, Oct. 15 or Sunday, Oct. 18 to help conduct bike and pedestrian counts at more than 35 locations throughout Long Beach. There are multiple volunteer time slots and count locations.
To volunteer:
Step 1 Select a volunteer training to attend on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at one of the following locations: Long Beach City Hall, City Council Chambers, 333 W. Ocean Blvd., at 10am or 11am; or CSULB Pyramid Annex Building at 2pm, 4pm or 6pm. Parking passes or validation provided upon request.
Step 2 Indicate which volunteer training you will be attending. Register online at www.csulb.edu/rideshare or call (562) 733-0106 by Monday, Oct. 12.
Step 3 Count or survey bicyclists & pedestrians on: October 15 from 7am to 9am or from 4pm to 6pm; or on Oct. 18 from noon to 2pm.
Step 4 Drop off count/survey forms at one of multiple locations and pick up a “thank you” gift card.
The Second Annual Bicycle Count will help the City acquire a better understanding of locations of bike and pedestrian activity, and which areas and infrastructure are used the most. Ultimately, the Bike Count will help inform where bike and pedestrian improvements need to be made.
