The Long Beach Branch NAACP announced on July 27 its 2015 scholarship recipients that will be awarded on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 3pm to 5pm at Ernest McBride Park, 1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.
The awards are as follows:
• Maiya Meeks (Long Beach Poly High School graduate and Long Beach Branch NAACP Youth Council President)— The 2015 Long Beach Branch NAACP Scholar of the Year (HS) Scholarship
• Lily Triassi (student at Fremont Elementary School) and Nehemiah Beeks (student at Rogers Middle School)— Long Beach Branch NAACP Elementary Stay In School & Fitness and Focus Award
• Berry Johnson and Diane McMillian— NAACP Scholars
• Caleb Smith (attending Dartmouth College in Fall 2015)— Long Beach Branch NAACP MESA Award
• Neyah Barbee (soon to attend Loyola Marymount University)— ALong Beach Branch NAACP Scholar & ACT-SO Participant Award
• Connor Kelpris (graduate of Wilson High School and volunteer since the 7th grade)— Long Beach Branch NAACP Youth Volunteer Award
• Krystal Ball (attending Boston University in Fall 2015) and Amber Correea— Long Beach Branch NAACP Scholar & Talent Search Award
• Daylon Flewelen— Long Beach Branch Talent Development Award
• Trevon Williams— Long Beach Branch NAACP Outstanding College Volunteer Award
The event is open to the public. This is the Long Beach Branch NAACP’s 18th year of awarding scholarships for college-bound minority high school students.
