Sixth District Councilmember Dee Andrews, in conjunction with 1st District Councilmember Lena Gonzalez and 4th District Councilmember Daryl Supernaw, will request that the city manager assemble a business-retention team for Molina Healthcare in Long Beach, according to Andrews’s office.
The team will be composed of all necessary departments, county and state agencies, business leaders, economic development officials and Molina Healthcare officials to develop a strategy identifying all available benefits and opportunities to attract and retain Molina Healthcare’s key operations and healthcare services in Long Beach.
The request will be read as part of the city council’s agenda for all nine councilmembers to consider and vote on.
The request rises from the recent challenges Molina Healthcare has been facing. From changes in leadership to negative media coverage, much speculation has taken place regarding Molina’s future, according to Andrews’s office.
Andrews said he believes that the assembly of a retention team can assist Molina Healthcare, who has served as a community partner for many years, to consider maintaining its corporate headquarters in Long Beach.
“I believe we can provide insight and support for Molina Healthcare in times like these, especially after all they have done. As a top employer in the City, it is important that we keep them here,” Andrews said.
Supernaw also signed on to the item.
“Molina Healthcare is an industry model, and assembling a team that can assist them to continue to hire local is vital for our Long Beach economy,” Supernaw said.
Molina Healthcare is a Fortune 500 company and the nation’s largest Hispanic-run health care organization headquartered in Downtown Long Beach.
