Steven Thomas Fabar, 48, of Long Beach, was convicted of 13 misdemeanor counts by a jury for repeatedly harassing a woman by sending her text messages and visiting her house in the middle of the night, according to Randall C. Fudge, Long Beach assistant city prosecutor.
The jury heard evidence of over 50 contacts made by Fabar after the court issued a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting her, Fudge said. The contacts included text messages, social media postings, emails and letters left on her porch and car windshield.
Fabar’s harassment started after the victim broke off their seven-week relationship. She obtained a restraining order against Fabar four days later, fearing for her safety after the many contacts, Fudge said.
Fabar violated the restraining order approximately 50 times over the next five months, causing the victim to disconnect both her personal and work cell phones and delete all social media accounts.
“No one should have to endure months of harassment after ending a relationship,” said City Prosecutor Doug Haubert.
Fabar faces a maximum of up to 13 years of jail, in addition to fines and probation. Deputy City Prosecutor Nadine Dahdah handled the case.
“The victim in this case just wanted to be left alone,” Dahdah said. “Unfortunately, the victim had to alter her life because of the defendant’s stalker-like conduct.”
Sentencing will be held on Nov. 17, in Department 8 of the Long Beach Courthouse.
