LB QFilm Festival to present exclusive LGBTQ-themed media series

The Long Beach QFilm Festival will be presenting an exclusive screening of Her Story, a new media series chronicling the love lives of lesbian and transgender individuals, on Jan. 9 as part of its winter-programming series.
The screening will be at 12:30pm at the historic Art Theatre, 2025 E. 4th St., on Long Beach’s Retro Row.
The presentation comes off the heels of the QFilm’s screening of The Same Difference, a documentary that explored the expectations of lesbian and bisexual women in each of their communities and social circles, on Dec. 17.
Now, QFilms and the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (GALECA) will screen the full first season of Her Story, co-written and co-starring both transgender and cisgender women, a milestone in LGBTQ media development, according to the association.
“It’s been great to see more and more films and TV shows put a deeper focus on trans women’s lives and relationships of all kinds,” said John Griffiths, president of GALECA. “It’s also nice to see more trans characters actually played by trans performers… we’re proud to let everyone know about Her Story.”
Following the screening will be a Q&A moderated by Trish Bendix, After Ellen.com journalist and GALECA director of Women’s Outreach. The Q&A session will feature co-writers and co-stars Jen Richards and Laura Zak, along with co-star Angelica Ross and additional cast and crew from the Her Story series.
Net proceeds from the event benefit the programs and services at The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach.
Tickets for the event are $12. Pre-sale tickets are available at centerlb.org, and tickets at the door on the day of the screening will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
