Music Director Enrique Arturo Diemecke and the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra (LBSO) will “Rach” the Terrace Theater in Long Beach when prominent Russian pianist Vladimir Feltsman joins the Orchestra on Saturday, Oct. 9 for a performance of the most famous Russian piano concerto of all time, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
Also on the program is the famous audible art tour of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Prokofiev’s graceful Classical Symphony.
The concert launches LBSO’s 2010-2011 From Russia, With Love classics season and celebrates Maestro Diemecke’s 10th year as the LBSO conductor and music director.
“I am very happy and full of joy to begin my 10th year leading this fantastic orchestra,” said Diemecke. “This season we are going to be exploring a fascinating range of music composed by either Russian or Russian-trained composers, and we will welcome an impressive array of guest artists, including Vladimir Feltsman, whose performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 will provide our audience with a thrilling musical experience.”
All LBSO classics concerts take place at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center in the Terrace Theater, 300 E. Ocean Blvd. Concerts begin at 8pm. Doors open at 6:30pm. Concertgoers are invited to enjoy live entertainment from local music ensembles in the lobby prior to the concert. Popular concert previews are held from 7pm to 7:30pm before each classics concert. These informative talks add to the enjoyment of the evening by offering insight into the evening’s composers and their music. Tickets start at $23. Student rush tickets are available.
