From June 2 through August 30, Long Beach Transit express bus service to a variety of local museums will depart from the Transit Information Center on the Long Beach Transit Mall, with direct service to a different venue six days a week (excluding Mondays). Customers can avoid traffic while traveling in air-conditioned comfort to Southern California’s finest museums and gardens.
One of Long Beach Transit’s most popular transportation programs, the Museum Express shuttles customers to museum venues and back to Long Beach for a round-trip fare of only $7, a minor increase from last year’s $6 fare. Professional operators provide customers with service on ADA-accessible buses that have room for two wheelchairs per trip.
“It is sometimes difficult for transit riders to travel on public transportation to see the many beautiful cultural, historical, and artistic displays at Southern California’s finest institutions,” said Guy Heston, chief operating officer of Long Beach Transit. “Museum Express allows customers direct transportation access and exposes new riders to the value and ease of using public transportation.”
For the first time, early walk-in and mail-in registration is now available. Ticket reservations and sales are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis by visiting Long Beach Transit at 1963 E. Anaheim Street, at the Transit Information Center on the Transit Mall, by mailing in a registration form available on www.lbtranist.com, or by calling (562) 591-2301. Reservations will be processed within 10 business days.
The Museum Express 2009 program will provide access to the following institutions: Bowers Museum, Descanso Gardens, Getty Center—Getty Villa—Getty After Dark, Griffith After Dark, Griffith Park Observatory, California African American Museum in Exposition Park, California Science Center— Museum of Natural History, Air & Space Museum, Hollywood Museum, and Huntington Library & Gardens.
