The YMCA of Greater Long Beach announced on Thursday, July 14 that it has elected Kevin Peterson as the new chair of the nonprofit organization.
Peterson, a founder and president/CEO of P2S Engineering, Inc., will lead the 45-member board, which aims to set a strategic direction and policy to guide the YMCA’s intent to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Peterson succeeds Bob Murrin and will serve a two-year term as the nonprofit’s 33rd chair, ending in 2018.
Peterson’s involvement with the organization began at a young age when he participatied in a youth hockey league at the Lakewood YMCA, according to the YMCA of Greater Long Beach.
As an adult, Peterson joined the YMCA of Greater Long Beach Board of Directors in 2012 and since then has served in several leadership positions, including chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, Board Fundraising Committee and member of the Facilities and Assets Committee.
Peterson serves in leadership positions for several local nonprofits, including vice chair for the Community Hospital of Long Beach Advisory Board and chair of the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Partnerships in Excellence program.
He also serves as a mentor for the CSULB Innovation Challenge, according to the YMCA of Long Beach.
