“Elizabeth brings a wealth of experience in education and fundraising and a strong commitment to the Long Beach community,” said Foundation Board of Governors President Barry McDaniel. “The Board of Governors is very pleased to welcome her to the Foundation, and we look forward to the vision she brings to our organization.”
In her new role, McCann oversee and direct all aspects of the foundation, including fundraising, operations, management of staff and consultants, and outreach to the community. McCann will work closely with the Board of Governors, LBCC administration and LBCC President Eloy Ortiz Oakley.
“Elizabeth has demonstrated an impressive track record of developing and implementing successful, innovative campaigns,” Oakley said. “Her experience and skills will be tremendously valuable to the Foundation’s mission of supporting our students.”
McCann’s appointment will begin May 16. She will report to the LBCC Foundation Board through the foundation president.
McCann succeeds longtime Foundation Executive Director Dr. Virginia Baxter, who will retire June 30. (Baxter will continue to serve as an elected member of the Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees).
“I want to build on all the great work Ginny has done, and help take the foundation and the college to new heights,” said McCann, a third-generation Long Beach native. “I’m so proud to be working in my own community and thrilled to be able to support education, something that I am passionate about.”
Previously, McCann served as the vice president of Development at Girls Incorporated of Orange County.
McCann has also worked at the University of Southern California in a number of roles: assistant dean for Development in Student Affairs; director of Development, Principal Gifts in University Advancement; president’s event manager in the Office of Protocol and Events; associate director of Development at USC’s Thornton School of Music; and event coordinator/administrative director for the Office of Development and Public Affairs in the Dornslife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
In between stints at USC, McCann served as director of Development for Major Gifts at California State University, Long Beach.
McCann is an active volunteer in the Junior League of Long Beach and has previously served with the Junior Leagues of California and the Long Beach League for John Tracy Clinic.
She graduated from USC with a bachelor’s degree in arts, English and American studies and a master’s degree in public administration.
