Long Beach City College (LBCC) President Eloy Ortiz Oakley, members of the Board of Trustees and other dignitaries cut the ribbon on the modernized and expanded Library/Learning Resource Center (Library/LRC) at its Liberal Arts Campus last week. It is the newest facility completed in the college’s building program and the fourth new facility opened this year at the college. lbccs-new-library.jpg
“This library/LRC that we dedicate today will provide access to technology and individualized instruction to students to help them succeed and meet their education and career goals for generations to come,” said Oakley. He closed his remarks by saying, “We do all this because of a simple belief that where one starts out in life should not determine or limit where one can go in this life.”
LBCCD Board Member Dr. Thomas Clark welcomed the 200-plus guests on behalf of the Board; Dr. Leticia Suarez, the dean of Academic Learning Resources, and Academic Senate President Sigrid Sexton offered remarks on behalf of the faculty, and Kassai, a women’s honor society, dedicated a tree in honor of the occasion.
The Library/Learning Resource Center (Library/LRC) has been expanded and completely modernized to better support student learning and faculty professional development. The new facility boasts more than 450 computer terminals for student use in new computing and research centers, ten state-of-the-art classrooms, new student success centers, improved holdings and new resources for faculty leadership and development.
