LBCC trustee elected president of California Community College Board

[aesop_image imgwidth=”500px” img=”http://www.signaltribunenewspaper.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Screen-Shot-2016-05-05-at-3.34.58-PM.png” credit=”File photo” align=”right” lightbox=”on” caption=”Doug Otto” captionposition=”right”] Long Beach City College Trustee Doug Otto was unanimously elected president of the California Community College Board of Trustees (CCCT) for 2016­-2017 at the statewide Trustees’ annual business meeting on May 1 in Palm Desert.
The 21­-member CCCT board of the Community College League of California is elected by the 72 local governing boards that oversee California’s 113 community colleges.
Otto will also serve as the president of the Community College League of California’s (CCLC) Board of Directors, which is the organization’s operational board that includes Trustees and Chief Executive Officers of California’s Community Colleges.
Otto was first elected to the LBCC Board in 2004 representing Area 4 and is an attorney in private practice in Long Beach. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University, a master’s degree jointly from Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary, and a jurisdoctorate from the University of Chicago.
In addition to serving as an LBCC Trustee and adjunct professor of law at Southwestern University School of Law, Otto was honored by the California State Bar Association as Lawyer of the Year in 2011, and he was chosen Lawyer of the Year by the Long Beach Bar Association in 2005. Otto has also been active in numerous city and local organizations and committees.
