LBCC's accreditation reaffirmed by commission

The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges has reaffirmed Long Beach City College’s (LBCC) accreditation status, according to a statement from LBCC. The Commission recently notified the college of the findings.
“It is great news that the commission has fully reaffirmed our accredited status without sanctions,” said LBCC Superintendent-President Eloy Ortiz Oakley. “This is a strong vote of confidence in our faculty and staff and the overall quality of instruction at LBCC.”
LBCC received four commendations and two recommended areas of improvement in the commission’s report and external evaluation report. The external visiting team that visited the campus in October to meet with faculty, staff and students commended LBCC for its commitment to student success, quality of facilities, the use of technology, a strong relationship with the community and being early adopters of partnership programs with surrounding institutions, such as the Long Beach College Promise, according to LBCC. Improvements were called for in the areas of “planning and student-learning outcomes.”
Reaffirmation is granted when colleges substantially meet or exceed the eligibility requirements, accreditation standards and commission policies set by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
