Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) units responded to a 16-story, residential high-rise apartment fire in the 600 block of E. Ocean Boulevard around 6:30pm on Tuesday, March 8.
Heavy fire was seen coming from a balcony on the sixth floor, and a second alarm response was called for, according to Mark Miller, LBFD fire captain and public information officer. The fire was confined to the apartment of origin in approximately 20 minutes, and no injuries were reported, Miller said.
Approximately 15 residents were displaced due to smoke and water damage to the building. The American Red Cross was on scene to assist with accommodations.
The cause of origin was unknown at press time and is under investigation by fire department investigators.
In total, 59 firefighters responded to execute the extinguishment of the fire, Miller said.
