The Long Beach Police Department’s (LBPD) Traffic Section conducted a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on July 11 that resulted in two DUI arrests, two standardized sobriety tests and one stolen-vehicle arrest, among others, according to police.
The checkpoint was located on southbound Cherry Avenue at 45th Street operating between the hours of 7pm and 3am.
During the eight-hour operation, which included the assistance of the Long Beach Police Explorers and the Long Beach Search and Rescue crew, 983 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 222 drivers being screened for driving under the influence, resulting in the following statistics, along with the aforementioned violations:
• One misdemeanor warrant arrest
• Seven citations for unlicensed driving
• Two vehicles related to DUI arrests
• 11 citations for unsafe driving
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
