LBPD, LBFD teaming up to present emergency-preparedness classes

Natural disasters, earthquakes, tsunamis and wildfires, as well as manmade disasters, such as industrial accidents or acts of terrorism, are some of the many possible emergencies that police and fire departments respond to in the United States. While many of these emergencies are unpredictable and are not preventable, they will affect large numbers of individuals who are unprepared to deal with such events.
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) is implementing an educational pilot program for community members who are interested in emergency preparedness and response. Along with the Long Beach Fire Department, LBPD will be presenting information regarding what steps people can take to better prepare themselves in the event of an emergency or disaster.
These departments will also provide networking information and opportunities to become more involved in the emergency-response community.
A session will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 7 from 6pm to 7:30pm at Veterans Park Community Room, 101 E. 28th St. The LBPD plans to host presentations in other neighborhoods in the future.
Those interested in attending this educational community event should email their name, contact information, and email address to LBPDwest@longbeach.gov or call (562) 570-3461 and leave a message.
