The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) is looking for a suspect in an alleged fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on Dec. 26.

Police said the victim, Nikki Rash, a 78-year-old Long Beach resident, had been hospitalized following the collision and died from her injuries on Jan. 4.

LBPD officers responded to the scene of the crash at approximately 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of California Avenue and San Antonio Drive. Police said they believe a tan Toyota Avalon ran a red light while traveling eastbound on San Antonio Drive and crashed into Rash’s vehicle. Police said the suspect briefly got out of his car before driving away from the scene.

Police said that detectives think distracted driving may be a potential factor in the collision.

The LBPD is urging anyone who witnessed the collision or can help identify the driver to contact Detective Ashley Van Holland of the Collision Investigation Detail at (562) 570-7355.
