The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to address alcohol-related issues in the community.

The funds will support efforts to prevent the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors, curb sales to obviously intoxicated individuals, combat illegal solicitations of alcohol and address criminal activities such as the sale and possession of illegal drugs, LBPD said in a public statement.

“This grant funding is important in our efforts to increase protection for youth and to address crime at problem locations,” LBPD Drug Investigations Section Lieutenant Baum said in a public statement.

This grant is among nearly 50 awarded to police agencies in California through ABC’s Alcohol Policing Partnership (APP) program. The APP program aims to bolster local law enforcement initiatives by collaborating with ABC agents who are experts in alcoholic beverage laws. Together, they work to reduce alcohol-related harm within their respective communities.

“The Alcohol Policing Partnership program can improve the quality of life in neighborhoods,” said ABC Chief Deputy Director Joseph McCullough in a public statement. “We’ve seen a real difference in the communities where the grant program’s resources have been invested.”
