LBT Board of Directors adopts budget that focuses on customer care, amenities

The Long Beach Transit (LBT) Board of Directors adopted its fiscal year 2020 budget focused on “enhancing the customer experience and continuous improvement,” officials said in a press release on Wednesday, May 29.
“In the past five years, LBT has improved safety and service quality and exercised financial accountability by improving services and adopting balanced budgets without taking on any debt,” said Kenneth McDonald, LBT president and CEO. “For fiscal year 2020, LBT continues this practice with a special focus on innovation, customer experience, promoting community and the transportation industry.”
Each year in May, the LBT Board of Directors adopts an annual budget that sets the blueprint for the agency’s strategic priorities. This year’s spending plan emphasizes customer amenities, such as enhancing bus stops and increasing customer care through additional training and other programs. LBT is also increasing its community focus through sustainability efforts, partnerships and new programs, officials said.
By late 2019, LBT will issue a proposal to purchase up to 34 zero-emission, battery-electric buses and it is piloting a digital-engagement program to improve customer way finding and transit information.
“The outstanding LBT team continues to do a great job improving safety and service quality,” McDonald said. “Our on-time performance and accident-free days has steadily improved over the years, and that trend will continue. Creating a safe, reliable and pleasant experience is important for the millions of customers we serve each year. I truly appreciate the leadership of our board of directors and the commitment by LBT’s staff to achieve our goals.”
