LBUSD Board president elected chair of national urban schools group

[aesop_image imgwidth=”500px” img=”http://www.signaltribunenewspaper.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Screen-Shot-2016-04-01-at-9.40.54-AM.png” align=”right” lightbox=”on” caption=”Felton Williams” captionposition=”right”] Dr. Felton Williams, school board president of Long Beach Unified School District, has been elected chair of the Council of the Great City Schools’ board of directors for a one-year term, according to the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD).
He will succeed Superintendent Richard Carranza of the San Francisco Unified School District, effective July 1, to lead the policymaking body of the national coalition representing 70 of the nation’s largest urban public school systems. The Council’s 140-member board is composed of the superintendent and a school board member from each of the districts.
Currently serving as the Council’s chair-elect, Williams moves up to head the board while Chancellor Kaya Henderson of the District of Columbia Public Schools will assume his post.
To round out the leadership team for the upcoming 2016-17 school year, Dr. Lawrence Feldman, school board member of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, was elected secretary-treasurer at the board’s meeting here on March 20 to succeed Henderson.
