On Tuesdays the Long Beach City Council holds regularly scheduled meetings at 5 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 333 West Ocean Boulevard. The agenda is available online at www.longbeach.gov, in the City Clerk’s Department–call (562) 570-6101 for information–and at the main and branch libraries.
Following established procedures, the public can comment during an agenda item or during one of the two public comment periods.
On agenda items, the public can speak for three minutes after the topic has been presented to the City Council. If there are large numbers of people presenting the same point of view, the audience could be asked to select a representative speaker.
The public can comment on any non-agenda item during the public comment section, which follows the public hearing section.
Speaker cards are required and are available on a first come-first serve basis 15 minutes prior to the meeting. There is a limit of ten speakers during this session and speakers’ comments are limited to three minutes.
At the end of the city council session, interested individuals who did not obtain a speaker card during the first public comment period can speak on non-agenda items without a card.
Because it is not possible to gauge how much time an agenda item will take, it is also not possible to estimate the actual duration an item will be considered.
Meetings can be watched live on LBTV, Charter Communication Cable Channel 8, and by streaming video at www.longbeach.gov.
All city council meetings are also replayed on LBTV, Channel 8, at the following times: Thursday, 7:30 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.; and Sunday, 2 p.m.
When there are items on the agenda that could draw a large number of interested individuals, the library’s auditorium, next door to city hall, will be open in case the Council Chamber’s seats are filled to capacity.
