Letter to the Editor

I would like to thank Long Beach and specifically the residents of the First District for placing their trust in me and our campaign. I look forward to facing the challenges that confront us and to bring a new approach to leading our great city. Thank you¬— I won’t let you down.
The question I was most asked on the campaign trail was: “Why are you running for city council?” My answer was simple: “I love Long
Beach.”
I moved to Long Beach 14 years ago to pursue a college education. I decided to stay because I fell in love with the diversity of our residents and our inviting neighborhoods. A few years ago, I searched for a home to purchase in a neighborhood that was diverse, safe and charming. I found it in the North Pine Neighborhood within the First City Council District.
As your newest council member, I am committed to bringing CHANGE to a city that I love. Our residents are demanding new ideas and a fresh approach to governing. We need to support programs that work, and eliminate programs that don’t work. We also need to support our vibrant business community and their employees so we can create jobs and grow our new “green” economy.
I am proud to have been supported by multiple organizations, elected officials and residents that don’t always agree on all the issues facing our city. Democrat and Republican elected officials alike supported our campaign because this is not the time or place to put partisan politics over the future of Long Beach.
Together, we will build a better Long Beach. As we prepare to transition into office in the coming weeks, please stay in touch with our effort by visiting our website: www.RobertGarcia.com.
Go, Long Beach!
