Today is bittersweet as well. While we are excited for the future of Los Angeles County’s leadership, we bid farewell to my long-time colleagues, Gloria Molina and Zev Yaroslavsky. We also said goodbye last week to Bill Fujioka, our chief executive officer for the last seven years. Collectively, Gloria, Bill, and Zev brought over 100 years worth of experience in the public sector, and we are forever grateful for their service. But, as Winston Churchill once said, “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” Los Angeles County has never seen change of this magnitude all at once, but I strongly believe that we are on the right path. We will have new perspectives at our Board meetings, a new vision at the Sheriff’s Department, and fresh start at the Assessor’s Office. These changes will create a better quality of life for all 10 million residents in Los Angeles County.
I’m looking forward to working with Supervisors Solis and Kuehl, Sheriff McDonnell, and Assessor Prang. It’s a new day, and the future is bright for Los Angeles County.

Letter to the Editor: Farewells and welcomes
[This week], we welcome Supervisors Hilda Solis and Sheila Kuehl to the Board of Supervisors, former Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell as our new Sheriff, and Jeffrey Prang as our new assessor. It is truly a historic day for the County of Los Angeles.
