Letter to the Editor: We have an appointment

I am proud to announce the first commission appointment of my term as mayor. Last week, I appointed former Deputy Attorney General Tracy Egoscue to the Board of Harbor Commissioners, and [Tuesday] night, Ms. Egoscue was approved unanimously by the City Council.

Commissioner Egoscue is an outstanding addition to our strong Harbor Commission. Her background as an environmental lawyer not only demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, but also an exceptional level of knowledge and experience that serve the Port and the City very well.

Tracy is an accomplished and dedicated community leader, and I am extremely confident in her commitment to the Port and the City. Her record of environmental stewardship and her knowledge of business and industry make her the perfect candidate to continue the Port and City on the path of collaboration, sustainability, and prosperity.

Industry leaders and environmental advocates alike have already been expressing their full support for this appointment and for Commissioner Egoscue.

Tracy is a 13-year resident of Long Beach with a long record of service. She was executive officer of the State of California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Los Angeles Region and the executive director of the Santa Monica Baykeeper, where she won the largest Clean Water Act settlement in history, a $5-billion settlement that led to a 10-year pipeline rehabilitation program.
She has also practiced environmental litigation as a deputy attorney general for the California Department of Justice and has worked on environmental issues encompassing the Air Resources Board, the California Environmental Quality Act, and the Federal Clean Water Act. She currently serves on the Board of the California League of Conservation Voters.

Tracy maintains a practice in Bixby Knolls, lives in the 7th District and has children in LBUSD. She’s an active and engaged member of our community, and I’m very grateful she accepted this new challenge.
The best days for our Port and our City are ahead of us.
Go, Long Beach!
