Trash talk
Just finished reading your commentary about the trash left on the street, yard and property you described [“How a local middle school ‘distinguishes’ itself,” June 20, 2014].
Yes, it is something to see and very difficult to accept quietly. The only difference between your experience and what I have been subjected to is that you are mainly dealing with children that have not been taught any better by their parents while I have had the misfortune to have the parents doing the same things. Some of my neighbors throw trash from the fast-food places out of their cars instead of taking it home and disposing of it in their trash.
You have the advantage of being young while I am too old and handicapped with a bad hip to have a way out.
Life would be wonderful if we could choose our neighbors. Unfortunately, I am much too old to pick up and move.
Best wishes and keep up the good work.

A big, little nonagenarian
I would like to congratulate the City of Signal Hill for 90 years of leadership.
Once called Porcupine Hill, this 2.2-mile city has since graduated to one of the most thriving cities in Los Angeles County with only the brightest of years to come. Thanks largely in part to the residents, businesses, city staff and leaders of Signal Hill, this big little city continues to be a great place to live, work and play.
Best wishes to all that make Signal Hill great, and cheers to another 90!
