Will it hit the streets?
As a Signal Hill voter, I am voting no on Measure M.
Every day, I see trucks, cars and buses pass through our city on their way to other places. The traffic wears out our streets, and it is expensive to fix. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Authority’s Measure M tax increase (additional ½-percent sales tax) will only provide Signal Hill with $165,000 per year to fix our streets. That is ridiculous when this City will generate $7 million per year for Measure M taxes.
I praise the City’s leadership for taking a stand to say no on Measure M.
It is a sad day for taxpayers.

Service with a smile
As you drive and/or walk around Cherry Avenue in Signal Hill on a Sunday morning, inevitably you’ll hear incredible praise songs being sung at the corner of 21st Street and Cherry Avenue. After hearing those melodic sounds, you realize you’re approaching Family Church Signal Hill.
If you’re like us, you’ve been moved by words of the song that you just heard. When you take that turn to go into their parking area, there is a very friendly parking attendant in the parking lot waving in your car. You’re greeted and directed to the church entrance. This was our first “welcome.”
Upon entering the building, you are greeted by people who are so welcoming with their pleasant smiles and diverse backgrounds, extended arms and occasional hug. Who wouldn’t want to venture further after this second “welcome” ?
Once inside the sanctuary, you see the young lady belting out praise songs you heard outside, noticing the band are quite young, multi-ethnic and inspiring with their arms lifted up in praise which is your third “welcome.” You learn later that the lead pastor of this church, Pastor Matt Ansell, is also a member of the band. Your final “welcome” is the biblically based message that can be applied to everyday living.
October is Pastor Appreciation Month, so we’d like to recognize Family Church’s pastor, Pastor Matt Ansell. He is very young, enterprisingly energetic [and] has impacted so many at the church. What we love about Family Church, besides its cultural diversity, is that it is young, with the youth valuing the concept of serving others. The youth seen during services and behind the scenes have terrific “attitudes of gratitude,” which is counter-culture in today’s youth. These positive character traits are exemplified by Pastor Matt. He is extremely hard-working, cares very much for the members of his church— especially the elderly (one of whom is 91 years young)— and gives much of his time by praying with/for the church throughout the week. He also gives his treasure to numerous individuals and/or organizations needing help. As a participant of the recent Long Beach full marathon, he raised money for clean water for communities in Africa.
Please join us and check us out at Family Church Signal Hill, located at 2094 Cherry Ave., every Sunday, 10am or 11:45am for services or online: familychurch.co. You and your soul will definitely be welcomed and filled!
