Issues with Islam?
I appreciate the work done by our secretary of state, Alex Padilla. In response to Mr. Padilla’s letter published on June 29 [“Jumping on the ban wagon”], we must remember the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. This law specifically banned anyone in support of totalitarian regimes to enter the United States. Because the Totalitarian Regime of Islam is totalitarian, Muslims were specifically not allowed into the United States due to the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1952.
The great majority of Muslims have never read the Koran. Read Chapters (Sura) Four, Five and Nine in the Koran. Every Muslim that I know has left Islam after reading these disturbing Koranic chapters. Muslim or not, everyone should read these three chapters from the Koran, to understand Islam’s intention.
The recent Supreme Court ruling is profoundly supportive of our constitution and to the values of the American people, and represents the moral integrity of our country.

Secretary Padilla stated the our government is a democracy. This is incorrect; our government is a constitutional republic.
With regard to the Supreme Court’s affirmation that the executive branch has the right and obligation to determine national-security issues, the President has determined and directed that visitation and immigration to the US from select countries to be a national-security issue. Thus, for the time being, visitation and immigration from select countries will be reviewed and determinations made on an individual, case-by-case basis. This policy has no relation to overt or covert racial animus or religious bias as implied.
I expect the secretary of state as an elected official to provide accurate and non-biased information to citizens.

A second read on weed
On June 19, the [Long Beach] City Council had its first public discussion regarding a proposed adult-use (AKA “recreational”) cannabis ordinance here in Long Beach. In the end, I voted against the ordinance as it was proposed, not because of any intention on my part to go against the will of the voters who overwhelmingly voted for Measure MM, but because we need good, well thought-out rules that will further protect our neighborhoods and provide added flexibility and best practices for our cannabis businesses.
And while the proposed ordinance is scheduled to be adopted at its second reading in July, I am working on amendments to the current ordinance that will be introduced at a later date to provide added protections and flexibility for both our neighborhoods and cannabis businesses. I truly believe these things are not mutually exclusive– we can do both and come up with a set of rules to the benefit of everyone.
A second reading for the ordinance will be heard during the next city council meeting on July 10 at 5pm in the City Hall Council Chamber. Feel free to join the discussion on what you would like to see in creating good policy for our neighborhoods. Free parking is available at the Broadway Lot at 332 W Broadway.
