Lucy’s Boudoir, a bra and lingerie specialty shop in Bixby Knolls, and the nonprofit organization Dare to Care for the Homeless are sponsoring a bra drive for local women’s shelters. There will be several drop-off locations in Long Beach where new or clean, gently used bras and new underpants will be accepted.
Michelle Jouvence, owner of Lucy’s, started the drive two years ago to give back to women who had to leave everything behind.
“We are excited to be able to help with providing comfortable bras that fit well to women who need them the most,” she said. “We will be going to the Lydia House in Long Beach to bring bras and do professional bra-fitting for the ladies there.”
Donations will be accepted Nov. 15 through Dec. 15 at Lucy’s Boudoir, 3925 Long Beach Blvd., and other participating locations.
For drop-off location information, visit brastohelpthecause.com . Tax receipts are available for donations. Any monetary donations will be used to purchase new undergarments for women in need.
“During this season of giving, we often don’t think about how many people go without adequate undergarments,” Jouvence said. “So many people have brand-new and nearly new bras in their drawers at home that they never wear. We are asking for people to donate these bras. We will be sure they are given to women who need them.”
