Local Halloween Haunts

California Heights United Methodist Church, 3759 Orange Ave., will host trick-or-treating at its “Halloween Spooktacular” on Friday, Oct. 31 from 6pm to 8pm, with candy and games. For more information, visit calheightsumc.org or call (562) 595-1996.

Grace Brethren Church of Long Beach will host its 20th annual community carnival on Friday, Oct. 31 from 6pm to 9pm in the church’s back parking lot located at Linden Avenue and 36th Street. Offered as a safe, alternative Halloween event, the carnival has no admission fees and includes free carnival games, as well as large-scale attractions such as a giant slide, a bungee run, a mega obstacle course, game booths, a skate park, a petting zoo and a live deejay. For the younger trick-or-treaters, there will be free balloon animals, bounce houses, face painting and a pumpkin patch specifically designed for pre-school aged children. More than one ton of free candy will be distributed, according to the church. Traditional carnival food such as hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and other treats will be available for purchase, along with cornbread and chili from Bake N’ Broil and Mexican food from Baja Sonora. The Wrigley Area Neighborhood Alliance will host its annual Halloween on the Green on Friday, Oct. 31 on the median at 20th Street and Daisy Avenue. Registration and games will start at 6:30pm, and a costume contest will begin at 7pm. Prizes will be awarded for the first three places in costume in each age group (2 to 6 years old and 7 to 10 years old ).
