Local health and wellness professionals to offer free seminar

In mid-May, Australian climber Lincoln Hall released his book Dead Lucky: Life After Death on Mount Everest for the first time in North America.
Hall stopped by NBC’s Today Show on May 15 while promoting the book. During his interview with NBC correspondent Matt Lauer, Hall revealed his story of overnight survival near the summit of Mount Everest. With no food, water, or shelter, very little oxygen, temperatures below freezing, and a debilitating case of altitude sickness, Hall survived a night alone on the mountain and was luckily rescued by a group of climbers the next day.
When Lauer asked Hall for the reasons why and how he could survive in such extreme conditions, Hall calmly replied, “I think that… if you want something desperately enough, you can go beyond what you believe is possible.”
What can Hall’s experience teach those of us who will never brave the Everest climb, or any other demanding challenge? His extreme hardship can remind us that our own personal challenges are only impossible to conquer if we allow them to be. For instance, our society’s collective dreams for improved health, superior fitness, and lean physiques are completely attainable.
If an individual wants to achieve his/her health and fitness goals with enough desperation and desire, that individual truly can reach past the boundaries that he/she has personally created. One person can raise the standards for which “acceptable” personal health is defined.
On Thursday, June 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Wellness Ambassadors of Long Beach—five highly acclaimed local professionals, each representing a different area of wellness—will challenge individuals to raise the bar on their health, urging them to go beyond what they believe is possible, as stated by Hall. The public is invited to attend “Awaken Your Vitality” , a free evening of no-nonsense presentations, reliable health solutions, support from local health and fitness businesses, and giveaways.
