The City of Long Beach is now accepting nominations for its second annual Veterans Banner Program, which honors local veterans with commemorative banners displayed throughout the city.

After recognizing 25 veterans last year, the program is expanding to honor up to 60 veterans this year. The banners will be displayed for one year starting in the summer.

“The Veterans Banner Program highlights our commitment to honoring local veterans by providing our community a meaningful way to pay tribute to those who have selflessly served our country,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a public statement. “Last year’s banners beautifully recognized their accomplishments and celebrated what makes them integral members of our vibrant community, and this year we are excited to honor more than double the amount of our hometown heroes.’’

The program is open to any veteran, living or deceased, who served honorably and meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • Born or raised in Long Beach
  • Currently or formerly lived, worked or studied in Long Beach
  • Served at the Long Beach Naval Station, Shipyard, Naval Hospital or Armory

Nominations are open until March 31.

Applicants must provide:

  • The veteran’s eligibility details
  • Information about their military service
  • A biography highlighting their connection to Long Beach
  • A high-resolution photo (if selected)

The Long Beach Veterans Commission will review applications, ensuring selections are fair and unbiased. Honorees will be notified by May 2025.
