Long Beach Airport (LGB) is partnering with Aeroplex/Aerolease Group and Signature Flight Support to offer a free aviation and transportation industry career fair on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 11am to 3pm.
Aviation Youth Career Day will take place at Aeroplex/Aerolease Group, 3333 East Spring St., and will feature a brief program and information booths from local industry leaders and education programs. Parking is free.
“The City of Long Beach is celebrating 100 years of aviation in 2011,” said 5th District City Councilmember Gerrie Schipske. “What better way to highlight this heritage than by encouraging the next generation of local aviation innovators to join the ranks of Howard Hughes and Amelia Earhart who flew at LGB. Additionally, I’m pleased to announce a showing of the documentary Breaking Through the Clouds at St. Joseph High School for girls in Lakewood on Monday, November 21, 2011. Aviation is a wonderful career and a vocation for people of all ages.”
The event is intended to expose high-school and college students to the array of rewarding career paths that aviation offers. The vendor area will include recruiters from the Long Beach Campus of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Long Beach City College’s Aviation Maintenance Program, Cessna Aircraft Company, The Transportation Security Authority and the California National Guard, among others.
“LGB is excited to connect local residents to career opportunities in the aviation industries,” said Mario Rodriguez, Long Beach Airport Director. “Retirements in the aviation community will open up career opportunities for young people in this exciting industry.”
Visitors will also experience a static air show highlighting World War II era aircraft, a Black Hawk military combat helicopter and several experimental planes constructed by local aviation enthusiasts.
“Long Beach has a rich aviation history and Aviation Youth Career Day is a wonderful opportunity to teach our young people about their aviation roots and include them in the centennial celebration of flight,” said Curt Castagna, President and CEO of the Aeroplex/Aerolease Group.
