Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS) is participating in NBCUniversal Local’s 2022 Clear The Shelters campaign until Aug. 31 to promote pet adoptions.

“Events like this offer an opportunity for our community to support animal welfare by adopting, fostering or making a donation,” Mayor Robert Garcia said in a statement.

As part of the campaign, special adoption events will be held where adoption fees will be lowered to $25 for adult animals over 7 months old. Animals that have been at the shelter for a long time as well as rabbits will be available.

Pets are available from LBACS at 7700 E. Spring St. from Wednesdays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Potential adopters can also apply online. Residents are encouraged to donate to the program, foster pets and volunteer.

“Clear The Shelters is not just about emptying the shelters. It is about how animals make us feel better and how their companionship improves our lives,” said Staycee Dains, director of Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Since the Clear The Shelters program began in 2015, 700,000 pets have found new homes.

“We are pleased to present our eighth annual Clear The Shelters campaign to help shelters and rescues across the nation with their critical work of finding loving homes for the animals under their care and inviting communities to donate funds to support their work,” Valari Staab, chairman of NBCUniversal Local, said in a statement.
