Long Beach will pay tribute to Mother Nature by hosting a series of free community events, workshops and volunteer opportunities throughout Earth Month.
The Earth Month festivities will all have a sustainable and educational focus, with topics including local wildlife, waste reduction and community spaces.
“Earth Month provides opportunities for our community to come together to both celebrate and protect our environment,” said Mayor Rex Richardson in a public statement. “I encourage residents to join us in these fun-filled and educational festivities and learn about our many City programs, policies and dedicated staff working to create a more sustainable Long Beach.”
So far, the City’s Earth Month activities have included the Save the Planet, Be the Hero kickoff event, a tree planting get-together in the McKinley neighborhood and a cigarette butt and beach clean-up at Junipero Beach.

The City will host the following free events throughout Earth Month:
- Earth Day Coastal Clean-up: Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to noon – The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will host a clean-up event to help protect the coastline and local marine environment. Community members are encouraged to reduce their footprint by bringing their own bucket or bag. Attendees will meet on the sand east of the Belmont Pier. Please note that rain will cancel the event. - Earth Day Celebration at City Hall: Thursday, April 24 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. – The City of Long Beach will celebrate the 2025 international Earth Day theme of Our Power, Our Planet by providing tips and resources for residents to support renewable energy programs during this event at City Hall (411 W. - Annual City Nature Challenge: Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to noon – Residents can take part in activities and traverse the trails of Willow Springs Park (2745 Orange Ave.) to identify local flora and fauna and share those observations with other cities across the world via the iNaturalist app. Learn more and register for this event at lbcity.info/cnc.

Several City departments will also launch eco-conscious initiatives through April to educate residents on how to live more sustainably. This includes the Office of Climate Action & Sustainability’s Climate Action Toolkit, which it launched at the City’s March 29 Earth Month Kickoff event. The Toolkit, created alongside City Fabrick through the support of the Neighbor-to-Neighbor grant, includes guidance for community members to take sustainable actions.
The Environmental Services Bureau will recognize Food Waste Prevention Week (April 7-13) by posting tips for storing and extending the life of produce on its social media accounts @lbrecycles. Plus, the Tobacco Education and Prevention Program will share a free toolkit for residents to throw their own community clean-ups via the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services on Facebook, X and Instagram @lbhealthdept.
