“The City is honored to accept this prestigious award alongside the design team at Plenary-Edgemoor Civic Partners,” Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia said. “This transformative project will strengthen the connection between City Hall and the community, while using only a fraction of the power of the current facility.”
Incorporating an array of eco-friendly features, the civic center’s design integrates the building’s solar panels and architecture to create a more vibrant and sustainable environment. The innovative development is targeted to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold standard for environmental efficiency, and it will utilize solar power and rainwater systems to enhance sustainability.
Located on the site of the former Long Beach Courthouse, the new civic center will include a new city hall, Port of Long Beach headquarters and main library. The site will also be host to a re-activated Lincoln Park and new residential, retail and hotel commercial development.
