Free after-school programs return to parks across Long Beach

The City of Long Beach’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) is set to provide after-school programs for children ages 5 to 12 this fall. These programs will run weekdays from Aug. 26 to Dec. 20, offering a range of activities at various parks across the city.

The program is designed as a free drop-in service, meaning participants can come and go freely. Children who attend will receive homework help and be able to participate in entertaining and educational activities. Parents are required to register their children for the program, and can do so at their preferred park during the program’s designated hours of operation.

The after-school programs will take place at the following parks and times:

Monday through Friday, 2:30 to 5 p.m.

  • College Estates Park, 808 Stevely Ave.
  • MacArthur Park, 1321 E. Anaheim St.
  • Pan American Park, 5157 E. Centralia St.
  • Veterans Park, 101 E. 28th St.
  • Whaley Park, 5620 E. Atherton St.

Monday through Friday, 3 to 6 p.m.

  • Wardlow Park, 3457 Stanbridge Ave.
  • Bixby Park, 130 Cherry Ave.
  • Cesar E. Chavez Park, 401 Golden Ave.
  • Coolidge Park, 352 E. Neece St.
  • Drake Park, 951 Maine Ave.
  • El Dorado Park West, 2800 N. Studebaker Rd.
  • Houghton Park, 6301 Myrtle Ave.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 1950 Lemon Ave.
  • McBride Park, 1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
  • Orizaba Park, 1435 Orizaba Ave.
  • Ramona Park, 3301 E. 65th St.
  • Seaside Park, 14th Street at Chestnut Ave.
  • Silverado Park, 1545 W. 31st St.
  • Scherer Park, 4600 Long Beach Blvd.
  • Somerset Park, 1500 E. Carson St.
  • Stearns Champions Park, 4520 E. 23rd St.
