Long Beach residents of all backgrounds are invited to help build the City’s first-ever Culture and Heritage Calendar.
By completing a survey by Friday, April 25, community members can contribute to an online calendar that will recognize and celebrate the diversity in Long Beach. The calendar will be launched this spring, with cultural and religious observances, diversity and inclusion-related commemorative months and key dates that reflect the City’s commitment to equity and inclusion.
“We believe that recognizing and celebrating the diverse traditions and milestones of our community fosters understanding and strengthens connections,” said Mayor Rex Richardson in a public statement. “This survey is an opportunity for our community to have their unique voices heard by helping develop a new Culture and Heritage Calendar that educates and further showcases our Long Beach values of respect and inclusion.”

The Culture and Heritage Calendar will be available on the Office of Equity’s webpage as a resource to promote awareness of the diverse groups, cultures and causes in Long Beach. Community members interested in participating may complete the survey online or in-person by visiting any Long Beach Public Library location, as well as any Parks, Recreation and Marine community center, and filling out a paper copy.
The survey is open to all community members, and participants can suggest widely recognized cultural or religious observances to be included on the calendar. Those interested in suggesting multiple events, holidays or observances are advised to submit a separate survey for each.
While the inaugural edition will only include survey responses submitted by April 25, the survey will remain open and the calendar will be updated periodically to ensure those interested in participating continue to have opportunities to provide input.
The launch of the inaugural edition of the Cultural and Heritage Calendar will be announced in the coming weeks. For more information about the Office of Equity and to stay updated, visit the Office’s webpage.
