The Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) will be undergoing catalog system upgrades through Nov. 5 to improve access to the library’s collection, grow searching capabilities and bolster the online and in-person library experience.

The upgrades began on Monday and will last nearly a month, with the updated system available to use the day after the upgrade period ends on Nov. 6.

Once the new catalog system goes live, it will include user-friendly features such as patrons being able to save specific searches to their accounts and take advantage of more filter options within the search function.

While the catalog is in transition, library patrons will still be able to check out items and use the majority of Library services at all LBPL locations, including computers, Wi-Fi and meeting rooms. Digital resources that are offered by the Library, such as OverDrive, Libby and Hoopla, will still be available as well.

The following services will be affected by the upgrade period:

  • No new hold requests for items will be accepted through Nov. 5, but prior existing holds will still be fulfilled.
  • Starting on Oct. 14, no new items will be added to the catalog until the new system begins on Nov. 6.
  • From Oct. 28 through Nov. 5, LBPL will not be able to check in materials, create new library card accounts or process payments. Since the Library doesn’t charge late fees, patrons can hold onto checked–out items during this time and return them starting on Nov. 6.

For patrons who have questions about the Library’s upgrade plans, call 562-570-7500, email lbpl_reference@lbpl.org or stop by any Library branch during their hours of operation.
