The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners donated a total of $376,000 through 124 sponsorships to local organizations that support the arts, the environment, social justice and historic preservation, the Port of Long Beach announced via .
Groups and programs that will receive funding include the Cambodia Town Culture Parade and Festival, the Shared Science 2020 Tech Girls Workshop, the Long Beach Homeless Coalition’s LB Homelessness Ally Program and the Community Action Team’s 30‐Minute Beach Cleanups.
The Port of Long Beach has given over $9 million to the community through its sponsorship program since 2007. The port sponsorship program helps support events and programs that improve the quality of life in Long Beach while promoting the Port of Long Beach.
Sponsorship requests are accepted twice each year, in March and September. A $1 million budget has been approved by the board for the Oct. 2020 fiscal year.
“Long Beach has an abundance of wonderful organizations that produce impressive events and programs. We’re honored to be able to support them through our sponsorship program,” Beach Harbor Commission President Bonnie Lowenthal said. “It’s a way for us to strengthen our commitment to the community while bringing awareness to the Port’s important role in the region.”
As a requirement for the sponsorship, port staff members will be present to share information about the Port of Long Beach with community members at the sponsored events.
