Long Beach Parks to offer free summer food service program for local youth now through Aug. 21

The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will offer the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Summer Food Service program to provide free, nutritious meals to Long Beach youth ages 1 to 18 over the summer months. 

On weekdays now through Aug. 21, PRM will offer free meals at 23 park and library locations throughout Long Beach and Signal Hill, ensuring youth from all areas of Long Beach have access to the program. Service times vary at each site, with operating dates varying at select locations. No lunches will be served on June 19 or July 3. 

June 15 to Aug. 21 – Serving time 11:30 a.m. to noon:

  • Bixby Park (130 Cherry Ave.)
  • Drake Park (951 Maine Ave.)
  • Houghton Park (6301 Myrtle Ave.)
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Park (1950 Lemon Ave.)
  • Orizaba Park (1435 N. Orizaba Ave.)
  • Stearns Champions (4520 E. 23rd St.)
  • Scherer Park (4600 Long Beach Blvd.)
  • Silverado Park (1545 W. 31st St.)
  • Somerset Park (1500 E. Carson St.)
  • Signal Hill Park (1780 E. Hill St.)

June 15 to Aug. 21 – Serving time noon to 12:30 p.m.  

  • Admiral Kidd Park (2125 Santa Fe Ave.)  
  • Cal Rec Community Center @ McBride Park (1550 Martin Luther King Jr.)  
  • Cesar E. Chavez Park (401 Golden Ave.)  
  • Coolidge Park (352 Neece Ave.)

June 16 to August 7 (Tuesday-Friday) – Serving time noon to 12:30 p.m.:

  • Brewitt Library (4036 E. Anaheim St.)

June 29 to August 14 – Serving time 11:30 a.m. to noon:   

  • Discovery Well Park (2200 Temple Ave.)  

Youth can arrive at any participating location during the designated time; no registration required. Lunches will consist of well-balanced and nutritious meal options, including cold components like milk, juice, fruits and vegetables. Lunches will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be eaten onsite at designated eating areas.
