On Saturday, June 25, at approximately 11:35pm, Long Beach Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of E. 56th Street regarding a “shots fired” call and found a subject down in the street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had just left a party at a nearby residence when he became involved in a physical altercation with a group of males. One of the suspects within that group pulled out a gun and fired at the victim, striking him in the lower body, before the group fled on foot.
The victim, who has not yet been positively identified, but is in his late teens, was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
A motive for the shooting is still under investigation; however, detectives believe the incident may be gang-related.
