Long Beach police shot and wounded a 40-year-old Palmdale man allegedly armed with a pellet gun today.
The shooting occurred about 8:20 a.m. near Los Coyotes Diagonal and Woodruff Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Officers went to the neighborhood on a report that a person was waving a knife. When they arrived, they saw a man in a parked vehicle holding a gun.
Officers ordered the man to lower the gun and made several attempts to de-escalate the situation, but he threatened to harm himself and allegedly pointed the gun at the officers, which led an officer to shoot him, according to police.
The man was shot in his upper body and taken to a hospital, where he was expected to survive. His name was not immediately available for release.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
The gun was retrieved at the scene and determined by investigators to be an airsoft replica of a real firearm, according to the LBPD.
