A cross-cultural event between Long Beach and its sister cities will welcome residents to partake in an immersive experience and appreciate insights and lessons from seven countries.

Residents can enjoy performances, activities, cuisine and educational demonstrations from different cultures at the “Long Beach Welcomes Our Sister Cities of the World” event June 4.

Long Beach has seven sister cities: Yokkaichi, Japan; Qingdao, China; Mombasa, Kenya; Taoyuan, Taiwan; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Sochi, Russia; and Bacolod, Philippines.

A representative from each city will host informative booths at the event, teaching residents about their respective cultures, histories and customs.

“Long Beach Welcomes our Sister Cities of the World” aims to “honor the invaluable connections between Long Beach and its seven sister cities across the globe” and to highlight global unity and cultural diversity.

Attendees can also enjoy performances and activities unique to each city such as Chinese face changing, Japanese Taiko drumming, Cambodian cultural dancing, Russian singing and guitar playing and Kenyan drumming. Guests can indulge in a culinary journey and enjoy cuisine from Kenyan, Chinese, Russian and Taiwanese cities.

“This event is a testament to the enduring bonds of friendship and collaboration that unite us with our global partners,” said Mayor Rex Richardson in a statement from the City. “We invite residents and visitors alike to join us in embracing the rich tapestry of cultures that make Long Beach a truly special place.”

The event is supported by the Port of Long Beach, the Long Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Long Beach Convention Center and the Long Beach Airport. The Long Beach City Council will extend recognition of the Sister Cities during the city council meeting following the event.

Long Beach’s Sister Cities event will take place at the City Hall Plaza at 411 Ocean Blvd. between the Long Beach City Hall and Port of Long Beach buildings on June 4 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, and complimentary parking will be available at West Broadway Parking at 332 W Broadway.
