The contract is viewed as a reward for her performance over the past year, during which the Symphony has experienced positive and transformative growth, as well as a vote of confidence in her ability to spearhead further growth in coming years, according to a press release from LBSA.
“In her short time with us, Kelly has re-energized the symphony family of individual supporters, subscribers, and corporate, government and foundation donors,” said Irv Miller, president of the LBSA Board. “The board is excited to have Kelly at the helm as we enter into this new chapter for the Long Beach Symphony.”
According to LBSA, during her 18-month tenure, Ruggirello’s successes include: ending the past fiscal year with the symphony’s first surplus in over a decade; negotiating a new, two-year collective-bargaining agreement with the local musicians union; and assembling a strong administrative team.
“I am deeply honored to be a part of this outstanding 80-year-old institution and absolutely thrilled to help lead this world-class Long Beach treasure into a new era filled with so many artistic, educational and civic engagement possibilities for the city and for the community,” Ruggirello said.
