The City of Long Beach will host a job fair for people with disabilities on Tuesday, Oct. 3 in the Civic Center Plaza, coinciding with National Disability Employee Awareness Month (NDEAM).

“We are happy to host this inaugural job fair opportunity for people with disabilities,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a statement. “This community is filled with so much untapped talent and potential. We encourage local employers to host a booth and we invite job seekers to come out and explore the opportunities available.”

The event was made possible by the City’s Office of Equity and Citizens’ Advisory Commission on Disability (CACoD), the Disabled Resources Center, Mental Health America of Los Angeles, the California Department of Rehabilitation and Pacific Gateway Network.

Long Beach has approximately 50,000 residents with disabilities, and 33% are unemployed, according to a statement by the City.

The NDEAM Job Fair will provide an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to apply for job positions directly with employers. Job seekers can prepare for the fair by attending workshops or classes offered by the event’s organizing partners in the weeks leading up to the fair. Details about these workshops are available on the partnering organizations’ websites.

Local employers and individuals with disabilities interested in attending the job fair are advised to register in advance online.
