The City of Long Beach announced today that city buildings will be lit in the blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag as a demonstration of solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
“Our community is united by the values of peace, democracy and self-determination,” Mayor Robert Garcia said in a statement. “Long Beach stands firmly with the international community in support of Ukraine’s defense of their country and heritage. I have been in awe hearing and reading the words of these heroic people as they fight to protect their democracy. It has been incredible to witness, and we are proud to light up our city in their honor.”
The buildings and monuments that can be seen lit include:
- Long Beach Civic Center (City Hall and Port of Long Beach Building)
- Long Beach International Gateway Bridge
- Long Beach Airport
- Long Beach Sign at 710 Exit to Shoreline Drive
- Rainbow Harbor Lighthouse
- Long Beach Terrace Theater
